HYPNOSIS

What is Hypnosis?
A deeply relaxed state of body and a normal, natural healthy state of mind.

You are aware and in control. It happens spontaneously during the day when you daydream and just before going to sleep. In hypnosis, positive suggestions are more easily accepted and acted upon. Hypnosis is not a magic wand, but a tool to help you achieve your goals with your mind working for you.

Is Hypnosis safe?
Hypnosis is a natural state that people go in and out of everyday.

It is as safe as daydreaming. You will not do anything against your will – you are in control. You only accept the suggestions that you want to. People in stage shows in hypnosis are aware of what they are doing and consent to it. If an emergency should arise, or if you should go to sleep, you would wake up from your own natural response.

Who can be hypnotised?
Virtually anyone can be hypnotised, some more easily than others.

A person goes into hypnosis because they choose to. No one can be hypnotised against his or her will. People who are strongly committed to reaching their goals achieve the best results. Like anything in life, the more you practise, the more easily you can slip into this wonderful relaxed state. A hypnotherapist is a guide who knows how to get there and how to use it most effectively.

What does it feel like?
A very relaxing, day-dreamy state!

You may experience feelings of comfort, well-being and mild drowsiness. Other feelings such as sinking, floating or heaviness depend on the person and depth of state. You are always conscious and aware – the concentration of your mind is greatly enhanced. Because you are so aware, you may not realise that you are in hypnosis. When you awaken, there are definite signs to confirm that you have been in a hypnotic state.

Why is relaxation important?
The body and mind work at their optimum when relaxed and free of tension.

Disease: Dis = opposite to
Ease = relaxation

The opposite to relaxation is Disease! The single most important thing we can do for the health of our body and mind is to learn an effective relaxation technique and practise it DAILY. Relaxation helps everything you do.

Why are suggestions so powerful?
We are bombarded with suggestions, helpful and unhelpful, everyday.

Every suggestion you experience with your senses passes through a filter in your mind -your past experiences and beliefs- which determines what you accept or reject. In hypnosis, this filter is bypassed so that suggestions you would like to believe are accepted and embedded in your subconscious mind.

This changes the “little voice” in the background to work for you and with you, rather than fighting against you.

How can Hypnotherapy help?
Anything affected by thinking or stress can be helped by hypnotherapy.

"When I starting seeing Jeannine Dawson, I was at the end of my tether. After over a year of trying to conceive and after having been told (after some very disturbing hormone test results) that there was a strong likelihood that my problems were related to a prematurely depleted ovarian reserve (i.e. early menopause), I was very stressed and on the way to depression. At the time I was only 35 years old and had a FSH of 26.6!

During my work with Jeannine it became evident that my distress at the situation was having a negative effect on things. The more I tried to get pregnant, the stranger my cycles became. Jeannine helped me to take the pressure out of the situation. From seeing her and practicing with the CDs, I became less obsessed and more relaxed about conceiving. My husband noticed the difference immediately!

She also helped me come to terms with some issues I had around womanhood and my perception of myself as a professional and a woman.

Needless to say, a couple of months after I started to use the CDs, we conceived. Better still, it was completely natural without the drugs or IVF that we were on track to using. And better still, we're expecting twins!

I would thoroughly recommend Jeannine and suggest trying this avenue before embarking down the drugs/IVF path. It's significantly cheaper and less stress on the body and mind!"

“My husband and I had been trying for a second child for 20 months when we first met Jeannine. We had already tried a range of therapies from naturopathy to fertility drugs, and were booked in to start IVF. Fertility experts told us our first child was a miracle and that we had only a six percent chance of conceiving naturally.

I didn’t have much idea what to expect from hypnotherapy but I figured it was worth a try, it had to be healthier – and less pricey – than medical intervention. At least it could help us stay calm and relaxed during IVF treatment, a hugely invasive process.

My first session of hypnosis focused on relaxation and it felt almost miraculous – I went into the session feeling tired and close to burn out and came out feeling revived. The feelings of hope and confidence stayed with me.

During my second session I had a “look” through my body to see if there was anything preventing a pregnancy and “saw” that my uterus was “too tight”. It came as a surprise to me and probably makes no sense in medical terms but over the next few days I felt little spasms in my abdomen as if my uterus was releasing tension.

I also practised helping my memory let go of the horror of the first pregnancy and birth which had been traumatic. Under hypnosis I was able to coach myself through the nightmare and then leave it behind.

I booked more sessions with Jeannine to prepare for pregnancy but before I got started I discovered I was pregnant. According to our fertility specialist this is nothing short of a miracle, but having experienced the wonder of hypnosis I believe that my subconscious had all the answers my body needed – I just needed help tapping into it.”
